General Information
Cross-disciplinary research centre open to students from across the University and to researchers from around the world. Please call in advance and bring photo ID if you are not a member of the University. Physical access to the building and Library itself is difficult. However, arrangements can often be made to transfer books and archives to the University Library — please discuss with the librarian.
Smoking
No smoking anywhere in the building.
Medical facilities
First aiders in nearby buildings on the Old Press Site.
Emergency procedures
Evacuation over bridge into Assistants' Club. No evacuation chairs. CCTV cameras recently installed to tighten security.
Physical Access
Entrances
Narrow green door (with very small sign) off Laundress Lane. The lane is uneven and difficult for those with mobility problems. No bell for assistance. Steps and stairs to get anywhere in the building.
Number of floors
Three floors in total, including ground floor.
Lifts and stairs
No lift. Stairs have a continuous handrail on the left. Some heavy doors.
Seminar/teaching rooms
Offices on first floor, up steep stairs, off narrow, carpeted corridor. Heavy double doors. Seminars are held in offices.
Library
Library on second floor, up steep stairs. Intercom at door. Arrangements can be made to transfer books if needed — please discuss with the librarian Rachel Rowe (email rmr29@cam.ac.uk).
Computer facilities
Members have their own computers. No central computer facilities.
Toilets
No disabled toilets. There are disabled toilets in the nearby University Centre.

Magnifying glasses available in library. Good lighting. Photocopier available.
Signs and wayfinding
Very small sign at main entrance, and no directional signage within the building.

- Laundress Lane can be very dark at night. Beware dustbins and other obstructions, and the uneven paving.

- Carpeted and quiet in library. There is some noise from the punts outside during summer.
