General Information
General
The main department is located within Addenbrooke's Hospital, and is accessible. There is proximity card access to most areas. The Department of Psychiatry is part of the School of Clinical Medicine — see separate entry.
Smoking
No smoking anywhere in the building.
Medical facilities
Located within the hospital.
Emergency procedures
An intermittent alarm means you must prepare to evacuate. The hospital is divided into fire-proof compartments and in the event of a continuous alarm, you should move horizontally through the building to an area where the continuous alarm is not sounding.
Physical Access
Entrances
Level access from lift. Use lifts near the central concourse. Wide manual door, with proximity card entrance and bell for assistance. Enquiries office on left.
Number of floors
Located on the eight floor.
Lifts and stairs
Two large lifts to all floors.
Seminar/teaching rooms
Offices and the seminar rooms all accessible and fairly spacious, with moveable furniture. Benches in laboratories are standard height.
Library
A few books are kept in the seminar room. Otherwise see entry for Medical Library.
Computer facilities
All members have their own computers.
Toilets
One disabled toilet in the department. Plenty of disabled toilets in the main hospital.
Common rooms
Small kitchen area, rather cramped and awkward for a wheelchair.
Visual Impairments
Assistance dogs
Please ask in advance if you want to bring your assistance dog into the Department.
Computer facilities
Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.
Large print, Braille and audio
Large print information on prior request.
Library and magnification equipment
Photocopier available.
Signs and wayfinding
Large sign to department from lift. Very little internal signage, but the department is a simple U-shape and wayfinding is not difficult.
