General Information

New building, opened May 2005, with good access facilities. Security swipe card system throughout building. Visitors with disability requirements are encouraged to contact the Institute prior to the visit so that where relevant, assistance can be provided. The Library can be contacted on 01223 335372 and Reception on 01223 335360.

Smoking

No smoking anywhere in the building.

First aiders in building.

One motorised evacuation chair.

Physical Access

Entrances

Level access at main entrance, through two sets of automatic doors.

Number of floors

Five floors in total, including basement.

Lifts and stairs

Lift to all floors, requiring security proximity card. Stairs all have handrails.

Lecture theatres

Lectures all take place in building. Lecture theatre in basement, accessed by lift, with level seating and moveable furniture.

Seminar/teaching rooms

Seminar and teaching rooms in basement, accessed by lift, with level seating and moveable furniture.

Library

Over two floors. Level access to ground floor. A powered door has been installed. Carpeted and spacious, with low counter. Upper level accessed via internal stairs or external lift. Regular users can arrange an access card to enter upper floor. Workspaces can be reserved.

Computer room in basement, accessed by lift. Some computers in library.

Disabled toilet on each floor.

Common room in basement, accessed by lift. Round tables and moveable chairs.

Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.

Large print information on prior request. Coloured paper available for photocopying.

Library and magnification equipment

Workspaces can be reserved where this is more light. Extra lights on some individual desks. Magnifying sheets available. Photocopier available.

Good signs and clear directions.

  • Library is softly furnished with carpets and sofas, and very quiet.
