General Information
General
Housed in a new, purpose designed building, which has excellent access.
Smoking
No smoking anywhere in the building.
Medical facilities
There are nine first aiders in the department, with a dedicated First aid room on the ground floor. Emergency high flow, low pressure, hand shower unites are fitted in maany places round the building. A safety committee is in charge of safety and medical facilities.
Emergency procedures
Evacuation refuge points on all floors.
Physical Access
Entrances
Direct wheelchair access to ground level, reception and lifts. Doors to lift lobbies are actuated by card swipe, with powered opening for ease of access.
Number of floors
Five floors in the building.
Lifts and stairs
Three lifts serve the building. Two at the west reception end and a third goods/staff lift at the east end. Access is possible to all floors from any lift. The goods lift, at the east end of the building, and the larger of the two lifts at the west end of the building are wheelchair accessible. All floors in the building can also be accessed via the stairs at either end.
Lecture theatres
Goldsmiths Lecture Rooms can be accessed via powered doors from reception. Meeting rooms on other floors have level access from lift and moveable furniture.
Seminar/teaching rooms
Laboratories and seminar rooms all accessible directly or by lift.
Library
In the ground floor atrium. Level access from reception. Security card access out of hours.
Computer facilities
Computer suite on ground floor, accessible from reception.
Toilets
Accessible toilet on all floors.
Common rooms
There is a tea room on first floor, with tea, coffee and light snacks available. Access is via stairs from reception or the lift and ramp via first floor.

Assistance dogs welcome.
Computer facilities
Currently no special hardware or software for visually impaired users.
Large print, Braille and audio
Large print information and lecture notes on prior request.
Library and magnification equipment
Lighting is good in all areas. Photocopier available.
Signs and wayfinding
Very little directional signposting. Departmental lists available in lift lobbies on each floor at the west end of the building. All offices, Labs and lecture rooms are clearly signed at their entrances. Directions available from main reception.
Hearing Impairments
Induction loops
Induction loop in Goldsmiths Lecture Rooms and the teaching labs.
